Storing and Humidifying Cigars
Cigars must be kept in a properly humidified environment. The correct ambience is 70- to 72-percent relative humidity and a temperature of 70 F. A sealed environment (humidors) is required to keep both elements stable. Avoid large or rapid fluctuations in either temperature or humidity--they can swell the bunch and crack the wrapper.
Now that you have a new personalized humidor, the first thing to do is not put cigars inside. First and foremost, you must season a new humidor before storing your beloved stogies. This is also true for old humidors that have not been used in a while. The cedar inside of a humidor is part of the humidification system, and acts to provide humidity (and flavor) to the cigars, along with the humidification device. If the cedar has not been seasoned, then the wood will actually rob moisture from the cigars, and dry them out. This effect is the exact opposite of what you wanted when you purchased the humidor.
Seasoning your humidor is easy, just follow these simple steps:

Wipe down the cedar inside of the humidor with a sponge generously dampened with distilled water. Do not use tap water as it contains minerals which may clog your hygrometer.

Place a shallow container filled with distilled water in the humidor

Remove the cap of your humidification device and spritz humidification material with distilled water. Replace cap.

Close humidor and let sit at least 24 hours.
You have to check the relative humidity every day. Depending on a number of factors this can take a few days to a few weeks. Refill container with distilled water as needed. When you get in the 70 range it is safe to remove the water container and store you smokes inside. Check the cigars weekly, however, to ensure the humidors maintain them at a proper moisture level. As for temperature, as long as you don't place the humidors next to a radiator or in direct sunlight, the cigars should keep well.
